STORY OUTLINE
James Patrick Griffiths left Brisbane by train on 12/06/1917 and embarked two days later at Sydney on HMAT Hororata A20, arriving Liverpool England on 28/08/1917.
He was hospitalised a short time later with bronchitis for nearly three months before being sent to the 42nd Battalion at Rouelles France.
He was severely gassed on 26/05/1918 and subsequently invalided to England for convalescence.
After a short leave and further convalescence in England he returned to Australia aboard HT Somerset D35 which left from Plymouth England on 4/12/1918 and arrived at Melbourne on 15/01/1919.
